Online CERT Courses
An Introductory CERT course is now offered online as well as 4 other online courses which teach how the national Emergency Respons System works and is coordinated with other emergency response organizations. You will receive a certificate for each online course after completing the course and passing an online test. You should take the courses in the order presented below. Click on the course title to go directly to the FEMA website to take the course.

IS-317 (Introduction to CERTs) can be taken by anyone interested in CERT. However, to become a CERT volunteer, one must complete the classroom training offered by a local government agency such as the emergency management agency, fire or police department. To take the Local Classroom Training, print, fill out and mail in the application on the left of this page or call 321-454-3970 for more information.

If you would like further training and serve on a local CERT team, you can attend our team meetings where you will have a chance for additional training. Our team meets on the second Monday of each month (except December) at 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the following location:

  • IS-100.b - (ICS 100) Introduction to Incident Command System
    (approximately 3 hours & 0.3 CEU's)
    ICS 100, Introduction to the Incident Command System, introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

  • IS-200.b (ICS 200) ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
    (approximately 3 hours & 0.3 CEU's)
    ICS 200 is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS-200 provides training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the ICS.

  • IS-700.a National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
    (approximately 3 hours & 0.3 CEU's)
    This course introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.

  • IS-800.b National Response Framework, An Introduction (approximately 3 hours & 0.3 CEU's)
    This course introduces participants to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework.

  • IS-317: Introduction to CERTs
    "Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams", IS-317, is an independent study course that serves as an introduction to CERT for those wanting to complete training or as a refresher for current team members. It has six modules with topics that include an Introduction to CERT, Fire Safety, Hazardous Material and Terrorist Incidents, Disaster Medical Operations, and Search and Rescue. It takes between six and eight hours to complete the course. Those who successfully finish it will receive a certificate of completion.
